Healthcare is a connected journey

At Metalane, I worked on healthcare journeys for individuals and families. The scope covered discovering services, finding a doctor, booking appointments, accessing health records and navigating insurance claims.

These tasks belong to the same experience. A person arranging care needs to understand both the next action and whose care they are managing. My work focused on making those connected workflows easier to follow.

My role

I worked as a Product Designer at Metalane in 2023-2024. My documented work included user research, journey mapping, usability testing and high-fidelity Figma prototypes.

The prototypes covered doctor search, scheduling, records and claims. They gave the work a concrete form for review, connecting individual screens into journeys. The work described here is my design contribution within the organisation.

Designing around the family

A family dashboard was a central part of the work: one account holder could manage care for multiple dependants. That introduces an important interaction question into otherwise familiar tasks: who is this action for?

The design challenge extends across the journey. Selecting a family member, booking an appointment and viewing a record need to preserve that person's context. It is not enough to make each screen clear on its own if the connection between them becomes ambiguous.

Make connected workflows reviewable

Journey mapping helped organise the relationship between service discovery, appointments, records and claims. High-fidelity Figma prototypes made those flows tangible for discussion and usability review.

My focus was clear information hierarchy and plain language for people navigating unfamiliar healthcare tasks. That means making the next step understandable while keeping the surrounding context available.

What the work demonstrates

The documented output is a set of healthcare journeys and interactive prototypes, including a family dashboard and flows for search, scheduling, records and claims. It shows how I approach complexity across a service, rather than treating each screen as a separate design exercise.

This account does not attach a conversion figure, time saving or launch result to that work. Those claims need delivery records and evaluation evidence. The next addition to this story is a specific iteration: the issue identified, the design change and the evidence behind it.

Care for a family starts with knowing who the next step is for.
